First on Fox: Sen. Thom Tillis, RN.C., whose vote confirmed the confirmation of the Minister of Defense Pete Hegseeth last month, opened the effort to confirm last-minute allegations against President Donald Trump’s nominee.
“Every time you have a statement and someone is willing to place it in a sworn witness, you owe it to the process to assess it and not just throw it out of hand,” the North Carolina Republican told Fox News Digital in an interview.
“And that is exactly what I did. And then I came to the conclusion that I would support Pete’s nomination”

Hegseeth was confirmed after one tie-breaking mood of Vice president JD Vance, who makes the last margin 51-50.
Three Republicans-Senators Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Susan Collins, R-Maine and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, voted against Hegseeth.
Given the majority of the Republican conference with 53 seats, nominees can afford to lose three voices, assuming that all Democrats are against and that every senator is present.
The decision of Tillis to support Hegseeth was only announced minutes before he cast his vote. If he would become the fourth Republican who opposed Hegseeth, the confirmation would have failed.
The senator asked Hegseeth various additional questions after the new allegations had surfaced and the hours until his confirmation voice expired.
The answer letter from the nominee, who turned out to be Tillis’ satisfaction, was shared by Hegseeth during the vote by Hegseeth.
Speaking of the subject with Fox News Digital, the senator explained that he “had developed a reputation for completing Due Diligence” and that he takes his role seriously.
According to Tillis, he agreed to speak with the former sister-in-law of Hegseeth, Danielle, before she submitted a sworn explanation and claimed that he feared her ex-wife Samantha, alongside claims of alcohol abuse.

Danielle is not the sister of the ex-wife of Hegseeth. She is the former wife of his brother.
The call between the senator and Danielle was about “what would be conceptual in the statement,” said Tillis.
“And I said,” If that is true, and it could be confirmed, then the weight would bear, “Tillis recalled.
However, he said that the lack of confirmation left the allegations without credibility.
“I could never speak directly with a person who could confirm the testimony of one person,” he said.

After the confirmation of Hegseeth, it was reported that sources said that Tillis Danielle had “personally assured” that if she offered the sworn explanation, it would be considerable and the Republicans could convince himself to oppose the nominee of the Minister of Defense, according to The Wall Street Journal.
When asked about the report, Tillis emphasized that he gave the reservation that it should be confirmed in his conversation with Danielle.
“Confirmation means that at least two people must be involved, and they must be involved in the event, not a bystander. And I couldn’t do it. I tried to do it, but I couldn’t get to that point. And that’s why I had to The same judgment that I did with the other allegations, “he explained.

“I am not going to start those discussions because I know that my conversation was leaked a few hours after I had it on Sunday. I would clearly have no reason to do it. But I am not leaking private conversations.
Multiple requests for comments to Danielle’s lawyer, Leita Walker, from Fox News Digital became unanswered.
