Minister of Defense Pete Hegseeth directed the US Army To turn the name Fort Liberty back into Fort Bragg, but with a turn.
Hegseeth signed a memo on board an American Air Force C-17 before landing in Stuttgart, Germany, ordering the renamation of the base from North Carolina to Fort Roland L. Bragg, not the confederated general who was the previous name.

The name of the military installation was changed in 2023 as part of a broad initiative of the Ministry of Defense, motivated by the 2020 George Floyd protestsTo rename military installations with the name of southern soldiers.
The basis was originally mentioned in 1918 for General Braxton Bragg, a confederated general from Warrenton, North Carolina, known for the possession of slaves and losing important battles of the civil war that contributed to the downfall of the Confederacy.
The new name brings tribute to PFC. Roland L. Bragg, A Second World War Hero who earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his exceptional courage during the Battle of the Bobbel.

The military installation is one of the largest in the world and is the home of the famous 82nd Airborne Division of the army and the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).
“The guideline honors the personal courage and selfless service of all those who have trained to fight and win the wars of our nation, including PFC. Bragg, and is in accordance with the valued and legendary history of the installation,” said The memo.
In addition to the base of North Carolina, various other army posts were renamed, including Fort Benning, the home of the army of the army, after Fort Moore, after the late Lieutenant General Hal Moore, a Vietnam War commander, and and Fort Hood after Fort Cavazos, named after General Richard Edward Cavazos, a four-star general that fought in both the Korean and Vietnam wars.
