There is not much time left in the winter transfer window for Graham Potter and the West Ham board to do any transfer business, but one deal that has been done is for a left winger with 99 goals or assists.

Barcelona’s Ansu Fati is set to join West Hamand Ben Chilwell could join the Irons before the deadline to arrange a reunion with his former Chelsea boss.

However, one player who will not be donning the claret and blue for the rest of the 2024/25 season is Maxwel Cornet.

Graham Potter will not be able to contact Maxwell Cornet

According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers have agreed a deal with Genoa to take the Ivorian on loan from Serie A.

Although he looked to have impressive 99 G/A contributions in his 350-game career to date (transfer market), managed just one Premier League goal and six assists in all competitions in 38 appearances for the Hammers.

Genoa to offer Cornet a lifeline. Graham Potter will continue the development of the West Ham squad

Genoa manager Patrick Vieira clearly sees something in the left winger that he can work with and if Cornet does well, it’s entirely possible that something more permanent could emerge.

The expert accuses the West Ham star of unacceptable behavior!

What the move does is keep the player off the Hammers wages and away from a first-team set-up he realistically has no chance of breaking into.

On loan at bottom Premier League side Southampton at the start of the current season, he couldn’t even make an impression there.

Transfermarkt reports that he made just four appearances totaling a paltry 187 minutes.

Clearly, the player will be grateful for the new opportunity, while West Ham don’t have to worry about what happens next – Cornet is under contract with them until 2027 – for the next six months.
