Goals and highlights as Everton, Fulham and Cardiff win


The 2024/25 FA Cup third round kicked off with three games on Thursday, including Everton’s first game without Sean Dyche.

The Toffees sacked their manager hours before kick-off against League One side Peterborough United at Goodison Park.

Fellow Premier League side Fulham host Championship visitors Watford, while second-tier sides Sheffield United and Cardiff City meet at Bramall Lane.

Everton – Peterborough

Manager Leighton Baines and captain Seamus Coleman took over for Everton after Dyche’s departure, overseeing their first FA Cup goal of the season thanks to Beto’s finish from Harrison Armstrong’s pass.

Orel Mangala had earlier hit a post with a volley for the hosts and Iliman Ndiaye converted an additional penalty to seal their 2-0 victory. Peterborough are now without a win in six matches, losing five times along the way.

Fulham vs Watford: Cottagers through

After Rodrigo Muniz scored from Adama Traore’s cross to give Fulham the lead in the 26th minute, Rocco Vata scored one of the goals of the round with a 30-yard equalizer seven minutes later.

Joachim Andersen volleyed in, Raul Jimenez scored his third penalty in five days and Timothy Castagne headed home Martial Godo’s cross as the hosts won 4-1 to hand Watford a fourth straight defeat.

Sheffield United vs Cardiff: Ashford goal wins draw

Third place in second tierSheffield United are 29 points clear of second-bottom Cardiff – but the Bluebirds scored the only goal of the game when Cian Ashford won possession in a dangerous area and slotted home after 19 minutes.

Harrison Barrows went closest for the Blades, firing a shot against the post late on as his side slipped to a third defeat in five games.
