Gene Hackman And the two surviving dogs from Betsy Arakawa-Hackman were successfully achieved, FOX News Digital confirmed.
“It is with great joy that I and my staff with the permission of the estate lawyer at Santa Fe Tails have successfully found houses for the surviving dogs of the Hackman, Bear and Nikita,” Joey Padilla, owner of Santa Fe Tails, told Fox News Digital.
“We have led strict efforts to ensure that the best houses were found, and the dogs have already started with us in their new lives.”

Zinna, one of the three dogs of the couple, was found when the bodies of Gene and Betsy were discovered on 26 February in their house in Santa Fe.

“We are all grateful for the concern and the Waaks have received Beer and Nikita during their transition,” said Padilla. “It is our hope that everyone will continue to wish them best and honor their privacy so that they can continue to heal.”
Bear and Nikita helped the authorities in finding the bodies of Gene and Betsy when civil servants arrived at their house in New Mexico. Santa Fe Fire Chief Brian Moya explained that the Betsy department was immediately in a bathroom after he entered the front door of the New Mexico house. However, officials searched for almost 30 minutes without signs of Hackman.

While paramedics and officers of the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department searched the house, one of the dogs of the couple continued to run towards them. Authorities originally thought that the dog wanted to play, but later realized that the puppy was trying to help. One of the dogs from Hackman and Betsy died, but two stayed alive in the house and could roam through an open back door.

The deceased dog, Zina, probably died of dehydration and hunger, reported the Associated Press last week. The partial mummification of the animal could have obscured changes in organs, but there were no proof of poisoning, infectious diseases or trauma that could have lead to death, explained a report of the Santa Fe County Animal Control Agency.

Moreover, the report indicated that the dog’s stomach was empty and only traces of her and bile were discovered.
Zinna’s body was discovered in a crate that was in a cupboard over “10 to 15” foot distance from where Betsy’s body was found on the floor of the bathroom.

New evidence that was released on Monday revealed that Betsy might not have died on 11 February, as once believed. The autopsy of Betsy determined the way of death as natural, and the authorities previously believed that she died on or around 11 February. Toxicological results are hanging.
“In anticipation of mobile phone records, the office research of Santa Fe County Sheriff showed Mrs Hackman’s last known activity on 11 February 2025,” the authorities confirmed to Fox News Digital. “We can now confirm that Mrs. Hackman’s phone was used on the morning of 12 February to call a medical center in Santa Fe, Cloudberry Health.”

Authorities added: “In total, three phone calls were made that morning, all to the medical center. That afternoon one incoming call was made to Mrs. Hackman of the same medical center.”
On Monday, the Hackman Estate received a temporarily limiting order against the release of records with regard to the death of Gene and Betsy.
The order stated the “office of the medical investigator and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s OfficeIncluding the agents of each entities, rights and employees are temporarily held back to IPRA or other means, all photos or videos with images of the following: The body of Gene Hackman, the body of Betsy Arakawa-Hackman, the interior of the Lord and Mrs. Hackman’s stay. “
