Two police officers are recovering and a firefighter is back on duty after a garbage truck exploded in a Illinois suburb injured them late last week.
The incident happened Friday in Arlington Heights, located outside Chicago. Two video clips shared by police show it all happening via an officer’s body camera and a police car’s dashboard-mounted camera.
The explosion occurred just before 4 p.m. as authorities responded to the truck being on fire. FOX 32 Chicago reported this.
“The cause of the fire and explosion is currently under investigation, with the working theory being an uncontrolled combustion in a garbage truck dumpster causing compressed natural gas (CNG) tanks to catch fire.” Arlington Heights Police Department wrote on Facebook.
