A former United States lawyer Was found dead on Saturday morning in Virginia, only two months after leaving the office.
Jessica D. Aber, 43, worked from 2021 to 2025 as the American lawyer for the eastern district of Virginia. Joe Biden, She served in the role until resignation on January 20.
In a press release Saturday, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) confirmed Aber’s death and reported that it received a phone call about a “non -reacting woman” around 9:18 am Saturday.
“As a matter of protocol, an investigation is underway around the circumstances of her death,” the APD said in his statement. “The office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia will determine the cause and the way of death.”

According to Biography of Aber’s Department of Justice, she graduated from the William & Mary Law School in 2006. Her role was “(leading) a staff of around 300 prosecutors, civil proceedings and support staff in four divisions in Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk and Newport News.”
In her declaration of dismissal, Aber said that working as an American lawyer was ‘an honor without them’.
“I am very grateful to Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and President Biden for the opportunity to lead this office and to attorney General Garland for his steadfast leadership,” Aber said at the time. “I am proud of the work we have done with our federal, provincial and local law enforcement partners to maintain the law and to build community confidence.”
The American lawyer Erik S. Siebert, the successor of Aber, said that he was “deeply sad” to hear from Aber’s death on Saturday.

“She was unparalleled as a leader, mentor and public prosecutor, and she is just irreplaceable as a human,” Siebert said. “We remain awe for how much she has achieved in her over time in this world. Her professionalism, grace and legal insight set the standard.”
The lawyer said: “Each of us in the eastern district of Virginia will look at her example and try to make it come true.”
“Jess was a proud Virginian of high school through the university and during her career,” said Siebert. “She loved Edva, and Edva loved her back. We continue to commit herself to her life’s work, a dedication to seek justice as she wanted.”
