A 7 year old Florida boy who was injured when drones collided and fell into the crowd during a holiday air show this weekend, underwent open-heart surgery, his parents said.
Adriana Edgerton and Jessica Lumsden, parents of Alexander, said one of the red and green lighted drones hit him and knocked him unconscious on impact, causing a chest injury. Fox Orlando reported.
Hundreds of drones used as part of an aerial light show Saturday evening at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando appeared to fly into position before several began falling from the sky before slamming into the ground, according to videos posted online.

“Before they crashed, the green one went straight towards us. I went left. My son went right and it hit my son,” Lumsden told the news station.
Fox News Digital has contacted the boy’s parents.
The city canceled the show after the drones have crashed.
“Due to technical issues, the 8 p.m. Holiday Drone Show at Lake Eola has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience,” the city wrote on X.

It was not clear what led to the problems with the drones.
The drone show’s vendor, Sky Elements Drones, told the news outlet that it wanted to “express our sincere hopes for a full and speedy recovery to those who were affected” at the show.
“The well-being of our audiences is our top priority and we regret any inconvenience or inconvenience caused,” the company said. “We are working diligently with the FAA and City of Orlando officials to determine the cause and strive to gain a clear picture of what happened. Millions of people see our shows every year and we are committed to maintaining the highest safety standards set by the FAA.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the malfunction.
Drone arrays and light shows are subject to FAA regulations and typically require a waiver from a regulation that prohibits the use of more than one drone at a time, the agency said.
