A federal judge in Massachusetts ruled on Friday that a Tufts University Medical Graduate Student From Turkey that was held this week, it cannot be deported without a judicial order.
International student Rumeysa Ozturk, 30, was held by federal authorities near an apartment building outside the campus in Somerville, confirmed university president Sunil Kumar.
Judge of the American court Denise Casper ruled on Friday that the government answered until Tuesday to an updated complaint filed by the lawyers of Ozturk, The corresponding press reported.
“In order to allow the resolution of the court of his jurisdiction to determine the petition, Ozturk is not removed from the United States to the further order of this court,” the court wrote.

Ozturk, a spokesperson for a Homeland Security (DHS) department, said that it was “involved in activities to support Hamas”, was moved to a Louisiana Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) Detention Center before her lawyers were able to get the order of a judge, the AP reported.
The university said that “it had no knowledge of this incident and had no information with federal authorities prior to the event”, but confirmed that her visa had been terminated.

Last year Ozturk wrote an OP-ED together with three other students in the Tufts who were drawn in the university’s response to the war of Israel in Gaza, the AP reported.
The OP-ED called on the school to ‘recognize the Palestinian genocide’ and to make financial decisions based on the direct or indirect ties of entities with Israel, according to the report.

Ozturk is just one of a whole series of university students who have been held by ICE last week.
The University of Minnesota President Rebecca Cunningham sent a letter to students, faculties and employees who confirm an international graduate student on Friday, was held on Thursday in a house outside the campus near the Twin Cities Campus.
Cunningham called the situation “deep concerning”, and noted that the university “had no prior knowledge of this incident and did not share any information with federal authorities before it took place.”
She added “It is important to notice” the public safety of the campus, including UMPD, “does not maintain federal immigration laws and our officers do not inform about a person’s immigration status.”

Minneapolis municipal councilor Robin Wonsley, in a statement on Friday, said that she was “disturbed” about the detainment and indicated that there would be a meeting on Monday against what they called “Trump’s attacks”.
“This terrifying reality underlines the need for the city of Minneapolis, University of Minnesota, and all local authorities to clearly and unambiguously condemn the cruel and racist attacks of the Trump government and to invest resources in protecting vulnerable inhabitants,” Wonsley wrote.
Wonsley added that she asked the leadership of the Minneapolis police to establish clear disciplinary criteria for Every officer who violates the divorce regulation of the city and uses their position to enforce the immigration laws. “
