FBI gives travel warning spring break after the disappearance of the American university student


The State Department and FBI Los Angeles Warns travelers about the precautions to take certain precautions and to be extra vigilant while traveling.

FBI Los Angeles told travelers To check the travel advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – designed to give our citizens reliable information about security threats abroad – for their intended destinations in advance.

“Whether it is families who want to escape the last winter or a student who is looking for a short interruption of the hardships of academic life, know that the risks are there,” said FBI Assistant Director who is responsible for Akil Davis in a Tuesday statement. “Maintain vigilance during your travels and be prepared to contact the nearest American embassy or consulate if the need occurs.”

The warning comes after the disappearance of 6 March of student Sudiksha Konanki from the University of Pittsburgh in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Konanki, 20, remains missing From Tuesday, and her disappearance after she went swimming outside her resort around 4 o’clock in the morning, she fueled international news heads.

The FBI mentioned the following tips for travelers to stay safe during the spring break:

  • Set contact points for your family to refer in an emergency.
  • Only avoid traveling, especially in the dark. Be aware of your environment and avoid areas that you think can endanger your personal safety.
  • Only use authorized taxis/shuttles. Passengers are robbed or kidnapped when using taxis.
  • Avoid actions that are illegal, inappropriate or indiscreet. Avoid offers from sexual company; They can lead to a room attack, photography and blackmail.
  • Develop criminals by being aware of your environment and alert to the possibility of surveillance. Make mental notes from everyone you follow and immediately report this to the correct safety officers.
  • Watch out for new acquaintances who investigate information about you or who try to involve you in what could become a compromising situation.

In the Caribbean, The country with the highest travel advice is Haiti with a level 4 travel advice, which means “not traveling”, followed by Jamaica at level 3, which means that American citizens have to reconsider “travel”.

Various other Caribbean countries are under a warning of level 2, which means that Americans have to exercise more precautions. Those countries include the Dominican Republic, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas, Cuba and the Netherlands Antilles.

Various Mexican states also have level 4 warnings due to dangerous cartel and gang activity, including Sinola, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas, Michoacan, Colima and Guerrero.
