ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit called for greater consequences for the players involved in the handful flag battles during the weekend.
In at least three matches, brawls ensued as players attempted to plant flags on their opponents’ courts. A fourth fight occurred during the Arizona State-Arizona game due to Solar Devils players trying to plant a pitchfork in midfield.

The Big Ten Conference announced $100,000 fines for Michigan and Ohio State after their fights, but Herbstreit wanted suspensions for those involved in the fights.
“I think any conference commissioner who had a team or teams involved in the postgame brawl owes it to his conference and THE SPORT or CFB to study the film very closely and help anyone who was involved in being an aggressor to escalate the situation,” Herbstreit wrote on X.

Players from North Carolina and NC State and players from Florida and Florida State got into separate fights over the flag incidents.

Any suspensions would likely impact bowl games for the schools involved. Arizona and Florida State were the only schools that did not have at least six wins and are therefore ineligible to play in a postseason bowl game.
