The Sugar bowl 2025 was postponed until Thursday because the host city of New Orleans was hit by a deadly terror attack on New Year’s Day. During the pre-game ceremony, the stadium held a moment of silence for the victims, after which Georgia and Notre Dame fans came together in a powerful stream of loud “USA” chants.
The scene highlighted the strength and unification of American sports. Yet ESPN viewers, who exclusively carried the broadcast, couldn’t see the moment of silence, the chants of “USA” or even the national anthem.

ESPN failed to show any of the three on the air.

Too bad the players didn’t kneel during the national anthem in the name of ‘Black Lives Matter’. ESPN certainly would have shown that, just like they did during the 2020 NBA playoffs.
OutKick asked ESPN about the decision not to perform the national anthem prior to the Sugar Bowl, which we haven’t heard about yet. We will update this story if the network responds.

The Daily Mail recorded the overwhelmingly negative reaction to ESPN’s decision ahead of the Sugar Bowl. Here are some of the most notable responses:

ESPN is already facing criticism in the evening for its coverage of the attack on Bourbon Street, in which police say a suspected terrorist carrying an ISIS flag in his vehicle killed 15 people and injured dozens of others.
ESPN called the news a “truck attack,” as if there wasn’t a monster behind the wheel of the car.

Shades of 2021 when CNN blamed a “auto” for the Christmas parade massacre in Waukesha, Wisconsin, in which black nationalist Darrell Edward Brooks Jr. drove an SUV through the parade, killing six people and injuring 62 others.
In fact, ESPN was still downplaying the news nearly 24 hours later as a “truck attack” during the 1 a.m. “SportsCenter” hosted by a creepy, obsessive DEI mercenary named Stan Verrett.

Damn those self-driving cars. They keep running over people.
Anyway, don’t expect ESPN to show highlights of the “USA” chants either. Instead, expect the network to return to regularly scheduled programming use race to pressure NFL voters to give Lamar Jackson the MVP over Josh Allen.
