England’s defensive hierarchy has been activated on its head with 6ft 7in Geordie.
With his own assumption, Dan Burn had the most incredible eight days since his 16 -year professional football life. It was named by England for the first time at the age of 32, two days later scored on Wembley and raised the Carabao Cup for his Newcastle children’s club to finish the 70 -year -old domestic drought before he delivered a Debut of England against Albania.
He managed two excellent Wembley performances within a week. But it was the second of them, in the first game of Thomas Tuchel responsible for the National Team, which has uprooted our thinking about the England defense branch.
For the last 12 months, Marc Guehi has been the most consistent central back of England, with Crystal Palace first on the National Team leaflet and worked on the original XI from a multitude of different players. He started six of the seven games for England at Euro 2024, only the quarterly final against Switzerland is missing. Guehi was firmly at the top of Gareth Southgate’s class and more recently under Lee Carsley.
But it seems that Tuchel can have other ideas. The 24 -year -old was relegated to the bench for the World Cup qualifier on Friday, suggesting that the two starters against Albania – Ezri Konsa and Burn – are Tuchel’s today’s favorites, with injured John Stones and Harry Maguire to return to England. Gay was playing with a painful knee a month ago, but he has played three full matches since then, so worries about injuries do not seem to play here.
“It was a simple decision to bring him to (burn) after the huge final and I didn’t want to disturb his wave – it’s on a good run,” Tuchel said ITV. “It could be Marc Guehi. It could be Levi Colwill. But we went for Dan. It was impressive in education, very vocal. It’s like it’s his 50th lid, not his first.”
Guehi’s degradation most amazing decision by Tuchel so far
It is important that Tuchel has talked about Burn’s communication and leadership skills. This is something that the German has asked for more from this England team, and may not be one of the strengths of Guehi. It is a quieter, mild form of influence on its teammates – something that is definitely more according to the character of Southgate than Tuchel’s.
But Guehi’s degradation from the defense of England’s first choice is perhaps the most stunning and decisive decision made so far in the new Tuchel era.
When it comes to the shape of the club, this season’s Premier League statistics would suggest that Guehi is the best performance for all English defenders. It is far ahead of the rest to win the Occupation – 118 times compared to its nearest opponent, Colwill, who has 87 – something Tuchel said is a priority for this England team.
Guehi is top of the distance for the number of successful successes and also faces a total of-48 this season, with Colwill his closest competitor at 34 and Guehi is a burn-bournum for the number of Dunels he won (142).
Harry Maguire has made more espionage – 35 compared to Guehi’s 21st and Burn, without surprise, has won more aerial duels – 101 versus 62. And at the other end of the court, Guehi had more attendance on the target (5) than any of his opponents – the closest is the closest.
It has become very clear that Tuchel has only been given one target of the FA bosses and that he is single in his desire to win the World Cup. His withered criticism of the Southgate England side – who says he was more afraid to lose than excited to win – is a case. As is his request for today’s England players to be more critical of each other, to “dig each other”, as the captain put it, both on the pitch and on the pitch. Tuchel will be ruthless, as he pursues his goal and wants his players.
One would expect that Tuchel will make changes to the original XI to deal with Latvia on Monday night, which will almost certainly see changes in the widespread aggressive areas of the stadium and may include defensive sting as well.
But the first choice of the Tuchel team should be regarded as an indicator of the director’s mentality. The cornerstone to which all other group options will be compared. Burn is the current winner of the metal. Guehi stayed impressively back in the camp. But you suspect that there will be further side damage, as Tuchel’s mission to world domination is raising a rhythm.
