When Oscar Valdez and Emanuel Navarrete cross the ropes, they both deliver the same thing – every time they fight.
Now they have a score to settle when they rematch, live Sky Sports Main Event or Sky Sports+ from 1.30 on Sunday morning.
“There’s that personal pride in the game and I know that, and I think that adds a little more interest to the fight,” Navarrete said. Sky Sports.
“Pride weighs heavily, especially in a Mexico vs. Mexico battle. Losing to another Mexican would be more important than against someone else.
“Because this is the second time we’ve fought each other, we have more experience with each other, so I think that will lead to more exchanges.”
Navarrete beat Valdez by unanimous decision when they fought in 2023.
But now he says: “I want to knock him out… because I want the win to be clear to show that I can beat someone like Oscar Valdez for good.
“I will look for the knockout. He, however, will know better how to counter my attacks because he knows how hard I hit and how I will attack.”
Valdez scored an important win over Liam Wilson and now has this opportunity to become a world champion once again against WBO super-feather titlist Navarrete.
“We’ve been there with him, we know what he’s got, he’s a tough fighter,” Valdez said. Sky Sports. “But nothing in life is impossible, especially in boxing, especially when you’re a fighter like me, who has always put his body and mind into everything in this gym.
“We always had a chance and I don’t ever want to regret not trying. I wasn’t trying to go get that gold, get that dream that I always wanted.”
The first fight with Navarrete was a brutal battle. Valdez expects the same again.
“You will face another warrior,” Valdez said. “We will fight like we hate each other.
“We’re going to do it and see who has the biggest heart. I really think he will (win) this fight – who wants it more, who loves this sport more.
“This is the fight of my life and I take it very seriously.”
Emanuel Navarrete vs Oscar Valdez will be live Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports+ from 1.30 on Sunday morning
