Trump was named TIME’s 2024 Person of the Year
President-elect Donald Trump was named TIME’s 2024 Person of the Year on Thursday morning. Fox & Friends co-hosts are reacting to the announcement and what they call the Trump effect as a majority of Americans are hopeful for the new year.
Former CNN host Don Lemon labeled Time Magazine a ‘joke’ after unveiling newly elected President Donald Trump their Person of the Year.
Lemon hosted a TikTok Live in which he referenced the long-running publication honoring Trump after winning the 2024 presidential election and overcoming both convictions and assassination attempts.
“To engineer a comeback of historic proportions, to drive a once-in-a-generation political realignment, to reshape the American presidency and change America’s role in the world, Donald Trump is Time’s Person of the Year 2024,” the magazine wrote.
Lemon was outraged by the decision and attacked the magazine for choosing someone he believes does not stand for democracy.

“If they wanted to make someone Person of the Year, I don’t know, they could have done it with anyone. They could also have done that with someone who actually stood for democracy, who stands for democracy in the country.” Lemon said.
Although Time Magazine has chosen the winner of the presidential election as its Person of the Year every election season since 2000, Lemon emphasized that becoming president does not automatically qualify one for the title.
“Time Magazine, what are you doing? Let me ask you, Time Magazine, what would you say to the women who, I suspect, still read Time Magazine?” Lemon asked.
“There’s someone on the cover of your magazine who’s a convicted molester,” he continued. “You have someone who inspired an uprising. We have someone who, without a doubt, the evidence is there, who tried to overturn a free and fair election. You had someone who had multiple criminal accounts and was found guilty of multiple criminal offenses. And call them Person of the Year.”

“Is this a joke? Did we misunderstand something? Did someone scam us? Are we sure about this, producers? There’s a convicted felon on the cover of Time Magazine as Person of the Year. Maybe we’re getting scammed. Someone got a fake tweet posted or something, I don’t know,” Lemon finished.
Trump was also mentioned Person of the Year after winning the presidential elections in 2016. Time wrote that Trump has completely restructured the ‘course of politics’ since his campaign.

“Since he ran for president in 2015, perhaps no individual has played a greater role in changing the course of politics and history than Trump,” Time wrote. “Trump is once again at the center of the world, and in as strong a position as he has ever been.”
This year’s other Time finalists included Harris, billionaire Elon Musk – who was named Person of the Year in 2021 – podcast giant Joe Rogan, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Last year’s Person of the Year was pop star Taylor Swift, who had just wrapped up her record-breaking “Eras” concert tour.
