DeSantis praises Florida’s “forward thinking” and promises to help the Trump administration



Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reiterated his previous criticism of California and praised the Sunshine State’s “future thinking.” “Hannity” Thursday.

“To see what happened in California shows that the failures we talked about that night unfortunately exacerbated a truly horrific situation,” DeSantis said, referring to his debate with Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2023. “They didn’t do a very good job of it. Water resources or forest management. And it is the ideology that has kept up with that.”

“That’s kind of the mindset of the past. Florida is the mindset of the future.”

California’s leaders have faced intense criticism since wildfires broke out in the Golden State last week. However, criticism of the state’s ‘left-wing ideology’ is not new.

“You’d almost have to try to confuse California. That’s what Gavin Newsom has done since he’s been governor,” DeSantis said at the meeting. “Hannity” special on November 30, 2023. “The reality is they failed because of his left-wing ideology.”

In the wake of the Los Angeles wildfires, many have expressed concerns about California Democratic leaders’ policies, including funding for first responders, especially as the incoming Trump administration is preparing to take office.

DeSantis told Fox News host Sean Hannity that Americans will see a “stark contrast between a state like Florida, which takes seriously its responsibility to enforce the laws and wants to work constructively with the new administration, and a state like California, which will double the number of failures.”

The executive specifically pointed to immigration and border security as one of the key areas of contrast.

“When Donald Trump takes office, he will take the border and illegal immigration seriously. California is a sanctuary. LA is a sanctuary city. They will fight him every step of the way. They’re not going to cooperate. In Florida…we are not a sanctuary state. In my first year as governor, we banned sanctuary cities.”

DeSantis pledged that his state will “do our duty” to support the Trump agenda, and urged other states to “step up” alongside it.

“We’re going to deploy the resources. There’s going to be a lot of things we can do to really make an impact. And I think you’re going to see very serious, positive changes very soon,” he said.

“We’ve talked about it as Republicans illegal immigration on the border for decades. This is the time to put up or shut up. President Trump cannot do it alone. He needs Congress to support him, and he needs the states to step up and supplement their efforts.”
