Eighty -eight years ago, President Franklin Roosevelt stood for the American people in Philadelphia and warned of an economic aristocracy that not only sought to dominate our markets, but also of our democracy.

He spoke about those who gathered great wealth and subsequently used wealth to shape the laws of our nation and to serve their own worldview, rather than the public interest. And he promised that the government should serve people, not the privileged few.

The same challenge exists today, but now it is billionaires themselves take over our government. They bank roles the campaigns, install their loyalists and want to control the government so that they can make the rules. They insist on deep cutbacks in public education, including eliminating financing for decent schools and neighborhoods in the working class to finance massive tax benefits for the investor class that we cannot afford.

They are fighting to deregulate social media platforms to increase the market value of companies in my district, just as the railway barons from the past fought against each piece of regulations to protect their profit.

How Democrats can crush the Republicans on the economy and win the midterms

They move quickly and break things, treat our government as their own personal experiment, blind to the millions of Americans who trust their services and why? Because they believe they have the right to rule.

They see themselves as an aristocracy of talent, a select number, whose wealth and success make them the rightful decision makers for the rest of us. In their eyes, business entrepreneurs, hedge fund managers and Tech Tycoons Are the engines of American prosperity, while working families are expected to accept the scratches that drip downwards.

They believe that democracy must come up with their vision, their profit and their power, regardless of the costs for society, they even refuse to accept what separates people from God, mortality himself.

We are currently because Republicans have told us for decades that the government is bad. Democrats must have the courage to claim that the government is and can work well.

My plan for the Trump presidency. What I will – and not – do

That means standing up for decent schools in workers’ neighborhoods that depend on federal funds. It means that defending Pell subsidies that help children with a lower income to go to university and study loans that have eliminated and repaid millions, such as me, to complete our education.

It means that not every American family hurts with a child with special needs that an elm program needs and who depends on federal financing. It means too Protect social securityMedicare and Medicaid so that every American can live with dignity and retire with economic security.

We have to ask ourselves, will we allow a handful of powerful interests to dictate the future of our economy, our jobs and our democracy, or will we reclaim the promise of an America where someone who works hard can thrive?

That is our task in this generation to rebuild an economy that works for the many, not just for the powerful, to invest in American production to enable employees to share in the wealth they create And to ensure that people, non -financial power, determine us the course of the country.

It is up to us to make up for the radical American conviction that our genius lies in ordinary Americans who defend a world history in which national glory belongs only to kings, oligarchs or politburos.

See America’s distinctive excellence, Unlike Russia or ChinaIs our belief in the boundless potential of every citizen. Nowadays our government must stand up against the impersonal economic forces who have thrown away livelihood of those who work in factory cities and are concentrated in a few cities.

Our government must enable economic independence for citizens, so that they can assert control of their destination. Just like Franklin Delano Roosevelt Stood up to the economic royalists of his time, we have to get up for the unholy alliance of wealth and power today, not out of resentment, but out of determination, not to punish wealth, but to ensure that prosperity is built by and For people who let this country run.

That is our mission. This is our moment. And together we will get up to meet.
