Sen. Tim Kaine, D-VA., Was pressed on on Sunday why his party was “so unpopular” during an interview about CNN’s “State of the Union”.

“Why is your party so stunning unpopular with the public?” CNN -Host Jake Tapper asked.

Kaine said the party had to return to the “Bread and Butter Basics”.

Tapper pushed back on Kaine and noted that the state had a Republican governor, Gov. Glenn Youngkin.

“I don’t want to get into the weeds of the politics of Virginia, but your governor is a republican and he conveniently defeated a former Democratic governor when he ran to that position,” Tair said.

“With 1.8%” Kaine replied. “The last two Republicans who won governorship in Virginia won by comfortable double figures. Our governor is a Republican. He ran for a very good year to be a Republican, and he hardly won.”

The Senator of Virginia also expressed the hope of the gubernatorial elections of the state this year and said that the Democrats had a good chance.

“I think the race of the Governor in Virginia, November 2025, will be the first Bellwether test of a Democratic comeback. And I really feel really good about that,” he added.

Kaine has criticized various of the early executive actions by President Donald Trump, including offering buyout offers from federal employees, which is part of a greater effort to have federal employees return to the office.

The Democratic Senator has argued that Trump would “stiff” employees “stiff” who accept the buyout offers.

“He has no authority to do this. Don’t be fooled by this man,” said Virginia’s Democrat.
