Democratic lawmaker open to ‘bipartisan cooperation’ in Elon Musk’s DOGE plans

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., emphasized Sunday that there could be “bipartisan cooperation” to eradicate government inefficiency with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

ABC’s “This Week” host Martha Raddatz asked the Democratic lawmaker about recent discussions with Musk about President-elect Donald Trump’s attempt to cut government spending.

While it remains largely a Republican endeavor, Khanna was optimistic about working with Musk to address wasteful spending.

“Well, there’s one area. Elon Musk was brilliant in that he worked with President Obama and Ash Carter to make Space X a reality and that disrupted Boeing and Lockheed. We were conned, the American people, into putting satellites into space. President Obama, under his leadership, under the leadership of Ash Carter, they said, Elon, with Space X you can bid on the launch of these rockets. He had reusable rockets that…” Khanna said.

“Now continue your conversation with him,” Raddatz interrupted.

He continued, “Well, we talked about that. And I made it clear to him that Tesla and SpaceX were funded by the Obama administration and that we have a role for government to play. But let’s look at what you did with Space X. Why can’t we do that with other parts of the five prime numbers to reduce costs? “I think when it comes to defense, getting better defense for value and reducing costs, there can be tremendous bipartisan cooperation.”

Musk and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy currently run DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), which is not a formal government department, and have met with several Republican members of the Senate and House of Representatives on ways to cut expenses.

The DOGE Caucus then officially became bipartisan on Tuesday Florida Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz made the announcement he would join the group and advocate for the removal of the United States Secret Service (USSS) from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“Today I will participate in the Congressional DOGE Caucus because I believe that streamlining government processes and reducing ineffective government spending should not be a partisan issue,” Moskowitz said in a statement.

“I have made it clear that there are ways we can reorganize our government so it can work better for the American people. In particular, the Department of Homeland Security, while very necessary, has become too big,” Moskowitz said.
