The promoter Oscar de la Hoya says he wants to put together a fight between Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Errol Spence for the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. De la Hoya believes that the two fighters will sell the 80,000 -seat cowboy stadium.
Oscar points out that Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 kos) comes from exhaustive battles against former WBA Junior Middleweight Israil Madrimov champion on February 22 and Serhii Bohachuk last October. He says these types of races can be tough on a fighter.
Homecoming of Dallas
Therefore, de la Hoya wants to have Ortiz Jr. to return to Dallas for a Homecoming party against a top 10 candidate and then target a WBC and WBO 154-LB champion Sebastian Fundora and Terence Crawford if he returns to class after his fight with Canelo Alvarez in 168.
If De Hoya can negotiate a race between the inactive Spence (28-1, 22 kos) for the WBC 154-LB WBC title for the Homecoming Homecoming event, it would be huge. This would be the ideal installation for Ortiz Jr. to prepare for his title shot against a fundora or Crawford. Errol has not competed since the ninth knockout loss in Crawford in 2023.
“Vergil comes from two fierce battles (Serhii Bohachuk and Israil Madrimov), which may be hard on the body and hard in mind,” said supporter Oscar de la Hoya TowerE about Vergil Ortiz Jr.
“I’m thinking of having a Homecoming party for Dallas and fight a top 10 type. Then go after a fundora and then go after Crawford after returning down to 154 after racing Canelo at 168.
“There are many options out there for Vergil. I’m excited. Imagine if we can put together a Vergil-Spence match at Dallas Stadium at Cowboys Stadium, which would sell the place. De La Hoya said.
