“I didn’t see a light or a tunnel, but they say it can come back to you in flashbacks,” Vasinova, 42, who is scheduled to appear in the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff Madisonsaid people in an interview published on Thursday, December 19.
She continued, “However, I began to see many angel numbers everywhere. I was seeing sequences like 5555, 7777. It was weird, but something was telling me, “There’s more to you. You’re not meant to go yet. You have to do something else.”
Since Yellowstone debuted in 2018, the Dutton family’s story has had enough potential to inspire six spinoffs (and counting) to add to the Paramount Network slate. Vasinova remembers thinking she had the flu when she visited an emergency room in downtown Los Angeles.
“They decided it was strep and sent me home with antibiotics. But the next day I could barely walk. My legs couldn’t move. It was weird,” she said.
By the time Vasinova’s uncle took her to the emergency room at 2 a.m., she felt like she was “going to die.” Her heart stopped beating for three whole minutes. An emergency room nurse made repeated attempts to revive her and eventually found a pulse. Vasinova was then put into an artificial coma.
“I was in total organ failure,” she explained. “I went from being young and healthy to this infection that suddenly completely took over my body. He just showed up and just rocked my world.”
Before Yellowstone announced it was ending with Season 5, the cast had a lot to say about its future. Speculation regarding the series finale began in February 2023, when Deadline reported that Paramount Network was considering ending the series after season 5 due to scheduling conflicts with Kevin Costner, who plays the main character John Dutton. Reliving the near-death experience made Vasinova feel “much more connected” to life.
“It’s hard to even describe how I feel,” she said. “It felt like a turning point in my life. Death and rebirth. I know I shouldn’t take anything for granted. Life is so precious and such a gift. We are here to do good in the world, to be helpful and to be eternally grateful.
Vasinova was given the opportunity to directly thank the emergency nurse who successfully resuscitated her.
“I found out her name was Ruby, so I went back to the hospital with a bracelet with a little ruby in it, just to say, ‘Thank you for saving my life,'” she said. “I didn’t know if she was going to recognize me, but when she opened the door I started crying and she just got lost. She told me she never knows who lives or dies after being moved. She just gave me the biggest hug. Because I was gone for three whole minutes. But I’m back.”
Yellowstone is known for its over-the-top storylines and complex family drama, but the show’s cast and crew have also been involved in plenty of off-screen controversy over the years. With the health scare behind her, Vasinova looks to the future. She said yes Instagram on Tuesday, December 17 to share his excitement about joining the cast of Madisonwhich is currently in production and is expected to premiere in 2025.
“I am so proud to join this huge cast and a truly special project. big thanks to (Yellowstone co-creator) Taylor (Sheridan) for everything and for welcoming me into the @yellowstone family,” she wrote.
Vasinova will play Kestrel, “a native woman married to a Montana farmer who lives with her family in a double-wide trailer on their ranch,” according to Diversity.
