Dak Prescott wants Mike McCarthy to remain Cowboys head coach: ‘Believe in him wholeheartedly’

Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott may be locked in for the future after signing a lucrative extension last offseason, but with five games remaining on the schedule, head coach Mike McCarthy’s future in “Jerry’s World” remains to be seen.

If it was to PrescottMcCarthy would return in 2025.

Prescott is unable to run McCarthy’s offense on game day after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury, a key reason why Dallas won’t replicate another 12-5 season for the fourth straight season.

But he believes so strongly in McCarthy’s leadership that he supported owner Jerry Jones in renewing his contract after the 2024 regular season.

“It seems like your coach is playing on his last contract and I almost feel helpless, like I can’t help him in this situation, especially with a guy you believe in so much and who believes you should be your head coach,” he said. Prescott. told Yahoo Sports. “Control what I can control, help and support Mike to whatever extent I can.”

While the Cowboys’ season spiraled out of control before they posted back-to-back wins, most recently against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving Day, McCarthy’s tenure as head coach in Dallas seemed all but over.

However, Jones did say last week that it wouldn’t be “crazy” to think McCarthy could return for his sixth season and more beyond.

It’s something Prescott was happy to hear.

“I believe in him with all my heart,” Prescott explained. “Obviously, I don’t necessarily want to get into the nuts and bolts of it all, but I think he certainly deserves a chance – a new contract and a chance to coach this team with more influence. ‘On his terms’ could be an option .” good way to put it.”

The main argument for McCarthy staying is three straight 12-5 seasons before this roller coaster year, two of which resulted in NFC East division titles. He also has a Super Bowl to his credit as coach of the Green Bay Packers, under then-quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

However, Cowboys fans know that their selections are good enough for more than just a spot in the playoffs; they want that elusive Super Bowl appearance, let alone the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which hasn’t appeared since 1995.

The Cowboys were upset when the Packers ended their playoff run at AT&T Stadium last season, leaving plenty of doubt as Prescott and McCarthy entered the 2024 season in the final year of their deals.

But like those Packers, momentum to close out a season can make a difference, especially in a league where everyone is playing for that next contract, regardless of the team’s record.

It’s unlikely, but by keeping the Cowboys in the playoff conversation until the final week of the season, does McCarthy show he can fight through adversity? Jones did say this week that he is “stable as a rock” and that there are still winnable matches on the schedule.
