A Louisiana prisoner in the dead cell On Tuesday was performed with nitrogen gas, a method that has never been used in the state before.
“Louisiana has successfully used nitrogen hypoxia to carry out the performance of Jessie Hoffman,” shared Louisiana -Procurur -General Liz Murrill with Fox News Digital in a statement.
Hoffman, 46, was convicted of the Kidnapping, rape and murder of the 28-year advertisement director, Mary “Molly” Elliott.
Elliott was abducted by Hoffman, who was then 18, from her house the day before Thanksgiving and shot the execution style in the countryside of St. Tammany Parish.

“Hoffman was convicted and sentenced to death for the brutal and merciless rape and murder of the 28-year-old (Mary) Molly Elliott in 1996. Tonight, justice was served for Molly and the state of Louisiana,” Murrill continued.
“Governor Jeff Landry and I promised the citizens of Louisiana and to the family members of victims of these horrible crimes that we would follow the law and put them first.”
Hoffman refused to issue a definitive explanation before the gas started to flow, and he was then declared dead at 6.50 pm in the State Fine of Louisiana, the Associated Press reported.
Authorities said the nitrogen gas flowed for 19 minutes during what an official called a “flawless” execution, although a witness claimed Hoffman to see studying during the process.
Shortly before Hoffman would be put to death, the American Supreme Court voted 5-4 to refuse a last ditch request to block the execution.

Hoffman’s lawyer, Cecelia Kappel, argued earlier and without success in a state -healthy profession that the execution of the convicted murderer was unconstitutional and would violate his religious freedom.
“It is conscious suffocation,” Kappel told WVUE. “It has a pillow over your face. It’s like drowning.”
The attraction stated that, since Hoffman is a Buddhist, breathing and meditation practices would be disturbed by the implementation process.

Hoffman will be the seventh person who was executed in the US in 2025, and the first in Louisiana since 2010. He was the fifth person in the US ever performed by nitrogen gas, with the previous four that occur in Alabama.

Death by nitrogen gas is currently allowed in just four states, including Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Oklahoma. However, the method was only used in Alabama.
In recent decades, the number of executions has fallen nationally in the midst of legal fighting, according to the AP, which led to a majority of the States abolishing or pausing that the death penalty carries out.
