Djed Spence opened how Tottenham Antonio Conte’s former boss “destroyed” his confidence and says he had just “a discussion” with the Italian while in charge.
The right-back Spence joined Spurs in a £ 20m agreement from Middlesbrough in 2022, but then Manager Conte played him as soon as he played him, insisting that the former Nottingham Forest Loanee was a “investment for the club” and not his own signature.
The 24 -year -old has spent time for a loan to Rennes, Leeds and Genoa since he arrived in northern London, but has broken on the side of the ange Postcoglou this season, regularly on both positions full back.
Spence: “I had a conversation with Conte”
Speaking of his time under Conte, Spence told to Presents Rio Ferdinand Podcast: “It wasn’t a nice feeling, especially as I come to the club high. I was sure, I was buzzing. I had a great season and just won promotion.
“Then it was like running on a brick wall. It broke my trust a little, I’m young, it’s not nice to hear really.
“I knew it was rubbish at that time. It wasn’t a nice feeling. ”
He added: “I feel that whatever I did, this man was not happy for anything.
“Even if you did the right things, you were like,” I did the right one? “Because he is not really a co -author.
“I probably had a conversation with him.”

Spence: ‘I was very humble’
Spence also discussed the turning point in Spurs’s career this season, which has seen a significant part of Spurs.
“I think I have been victimized that I am very humble,” he said. “The thought that things will simply happen without doing anything and say nothing but sometimes you have to express yourself.
“In my first year in Tottenham, I feel that I gave a little bit of respect to the players and the environment because it is Tottenham. I came from the forest, I go to the Premier League, a top club and I thought,” Phew, that’s great “.
“I feel that I gave them a lot of respect for the people I wasn’t really. I was pretty humble with everything.
“When I went there, I saw players who were big names like Harry Kane and Sonny (son of Heung-Min) and I think,” I don’t want to ice on your toes. “
“But that was probably my biggest mistake, doing this and not expressing myself how I should have.”
Asked when this attitude changed, Spence replied: “I would probably say this season, the beginning of the year.
“I think of course it happens. I don’t have time to waste now. I have to take it. It’s time. So just clicks.”
