The largest public school district in Colorado Is the first in America to sue the Trump government for fear of ice rays that take place on school grounds.
Denver Public Schools has filed a federal lawsuit against the Ministry of Interior Security and DHS Secretary Kristi mention for her decision to remove a policy indicating schools – and other areas, such as sensitive locations, as a result of which the enforcement of the Immigration is limited.
The policy was determined in 2011 under Former President Barack Obama.
The school system states that withdrawing the policy has led schools to learn time and resources on learning students and staff on how they can remain safe against enforcement of immigration.

“DPS is hindered in fulfilling its mission to provide education and life services to students who are abandoning DPS schools for fear of enforcement actions for immigration that occur on DPS school sites,” says the court case, according to the Associated Press.
The school system also argued that the presence has decreased considerably since the decision.

Since January 20, Ice has illegally arrested and deported thousands of people in the US – most of them are criminals with convictions in the US or their home country. Trump’s border Tsar Tom Homan has given the lead and has repeatedly stated that ice is going after “the worst, first.”
The aim of the lawsuit is that the Trump administration will hopefully restore the policy that prohibits immigration enforcement activities in schools, although no ice rays have taken place in school areas.
Denver Public Schools trained the staff on how to deal with ICE officers when they appear at school and tell them that they refuse the access to agents if they have not signed an order by a judge.

The lawsuit also stated that there were more than 90,000 students in the Denver Public Schools System During the 2023-2024 school year and around 4,000 were immigrants.
Denver has seen a huge population in recent years, because the city predicts that nearly 43,000 people have arrived in the area from the southern border, the lawsuit said.
