Atalanta visits Bruges for the first leg of the Champions League play-off against Club Brugge on Wednesday night.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side ranks among the most impressive teams in the championship phase, losing only once, but three draws meant that they lost a desirable top eight in a simple point. Their 2-2 draw with Barcelona on the day of race 8 was an excellent isolation result, but opened the door for Bayer Leverkusen, Lille and Aston Villa to beat them in the 16th round.
They go on Wednesday’s first leg by throwing Hellas Verona 5-0 on Serie A on the weekend. A new year’s injury start has seen them lose ground in the Scudetto race, however.
Club Brugge squeezed the play-offs for the goal difference thanks to Paris Saint-Germain who hit Stuttgart 4-1 in the final of the championship. Brugge was hit 3-1 in Manchester City Last time in Europe, but their 11 -point transfer proved to be enough to see them go ahead.

Nicky Hayen should have a complete complement to the players available for the first leg of Tuesday.
We saw Brugge’s dynamic and fast first line cause Man City’s issues in the final phase of the championship and we could see an unchanging original XI from Etihad. Brugge faded after Hayen returned to his bench.
Gustaf Nilsson has scored the only goal of the game in Brugge’s domestic victory over the weekend, but it is likely to fall on the bench in favor of Ferran Jutgla. Hugo Vetlesen also races for a few minutes in the middle of the park.
Club Brugge predicted the turn against Atalanta (4-2-3-1): Friends Seys, Order, Mechele? Of Cuyper? Onyedic, Vetlesen. Taibi, Humanity, Tzolis, Jutgla.
Rui Patricio has enjoyed a run on the Atalanta Xi with Marco Carnesecchi dealing with a muscle injury that could exclude him from Tuesday’s game. The former Wolves goalkeeper completed a Serie a Pull the weekend in a dominant Atalanta victory.
Ademola Lookman deals with a knee issue, while Giorgio Scalvini is breastfeeding a shoulder injury. Both are doubts about the first leg, but the first one has to return next week. Daniel Maldini has begun almost immediately on the injury list after arriving in January.
Sead Kolasinac and Odilon Kossounou are the other concerns about Gasperini’s injury to defense.
Atalanta predicted the composition against Club Brugge (3-4-2-1): Patricio; Posch, Hien, Djimisiti. Bellanova, De Roon, Ederson, Zappacosta. Samardzic, de Ketelaere. Rettyuses.
Atalanta’s injuries make this possible banana skin, but Gasperini’s side is historically great in front of adversity and their current state will not prevent them. It was in a ruthless mood on the weekend, with the Astral Age of Mateo Retegui continuing with a square of strikes in Verona.
Club Brugge woke up to the play-offs, but has shown throughout the championship that they can threaten some of Europe’s top dogs. Atalanta must be cautious about their speed in wide areas, but visitors who crush their hosts through human orientation are a special chance.
Expect Atalanta to settle for a 16 -seat round by winning in Belgium.
