Claire McCaskill Hints Democrats can be guilty of closing the government

MSNBC analyst and former Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill said on Monday that if there is a government closure, Democrats could be the fault in the party.

“This is the other problem that Democrats have,” said McCaskill on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”, adding “, if they are the reason that the government is closed, who is told their message that it is in fact the Trump administration that tries to close your government services such as social security, such as Veterans.”

A mood about one Continuous resolution is expected on Tuesday to finance the federal government prior to the deadline of 14 March and to avoid a partial closure of the government.

While McCaskill said she expects the continuous resolution to pass, she took an excavation at Republicans and claimed they want to take away Access to Medicaid.

“I predict, just like everything else CR drama, that they will pass a CR this week and they will continue the current levels of government financing until September,” said McCaskill. “But then the train wreck comes … Then they have to cut Medicaid to give rich people a tax reduction. And people don’t realize what Medicaid does. I think people in their mind only have medicaid for poor people in the cities.”

In a press release on Saturday, the minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, dn.y., urged his colleagues to vote no about the continuous resolution and said: “The Partizan Huis Republican financing account cuts reckless health care, nutrition value, nutrition aid and $ 23 billion no.”

President Donald Trump Has said that he does not want to cut Medicaid, but left the door open to revise the program on fraud.

“Medicare, Medicaid, nothing of that stuff will be touched,” Trump said in an interview of 18 February 2025 with Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “Now, if there are illegal migrants in the system, we get them from the system and all that fraud. But it will not be touched.”

McCaskill said that although she does not agree with the way in which Republicans operate, they think that Democrats should not prevent it from “wasteful expenditures”.

“The messages here are a bit confused for the Democrats, because it is very important that Democrats do not stand in the way of reducing waste,” said McCaskill.

She continued to criticize the Gop approach: “But the way these guys do it, they do not cut fat, they actually break bones from government service to America. And it is so random. It’s so without merit. It’s so unfair. And people will feel it.”

“That is a separate problem than whether she will take this continuous resolution that in principle pushes the ball over the field does nothing really except the current financing,” said McCaskill.
