Chelsea made it five, while Manchester City ended their winless streak

High-flying Chelsea moved five past struggling Southampton as the Blues ran riot on the south coast.

Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho got the goals for Enzo Maresca’s side as Chelsea maintained their good start under the Italian.

Joe Aribo had equalized for Southampton but the hosts were reduced to ten men when Jack Stephens saw red for pulling Mark Cucurella’s hair.

The defeat keeps Russell Martin’s side rooted to the bottom of the table, while Chelsea are seven points clear of leaders Liverpool.

There was finally something positive for Manchester City fans to shout about as they ended their seven-match winless streak with a comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Kevin De Bruyne was the star of the show as the Belgian, returning to the starting line-up for the first time in two months, bagged a goal and an assist at the Etihad.

Bernardo Silva and Jeremy Docu also scored to put City back in the top four, although there was further injury woes as defender Nathan Ake was forced off late on.

There were goals aplenty at St James’ Park as Newcastle and Liverpool played out a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Newcastle twice took the lead through Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, but both times Liverpool hit back thanks to Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah.

Salah then gave the Reds the advantage with seven minutes of normal time remaining, but a Fabian Schar goal deep into stoppage time rescued a point for Eddie Howe’s side.

Liverpool dropping points meant Arsenal, like Chelsea, had the chance to close the gap to seven points, which they duly did after beating Manchester United 2-0 at the Emirates.

Jurrien Timber and William Saliba scored second-half goals for the Gunners to inflict a first defeat on new United boss Ruben Amorim.

Elsewhere, Everton ran riot at home to Wolves, earning an impressive 4-0 win to climb two places to 15th.

Ashley Young scored the 50th goal of his long Premier League career before Orel Mangala doubled the advantage.

Craig Dawson then found his own net twice to compound Wolves’ misery and give Sean Dyche’s side a vital three points.

Aston Villa returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Brentford at Villa Park.

The hosts took a three-goal lead through Morgan Rogers, an Ollie Watkins penalty and Matty Cash before Mikkel Damsgaard pulled one back after the break.

The win ends Villa’s dismal run of eight games without a win in all competitions.
