Dexter: Original Sin is a throw us back into the twisted world of the fictional serial killer – but how does the prequel cast compare to the original Dexter voices?
Michael K. Hall originally played the titular role of Dexter from 2006 to 2013. Original sin takes place in 1991, focusing on Dexter’s transition from school to revenge series an assassin and an unsuspecting member of the Miami Metro Police Department.
Patrick Gibson assumes the role while Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Christian Slater and Alex Shimizu all playing characters from the OG Showtime series. Meanwhile, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patrick Dempsey and Reno Wilson round out the cast as new characters introduced in the Paramount+ series.
Hall previously returned to television screens as Dexter in a spinoff titled New bloodwhich was launched in 2021 but ended just one year later. There are further plans for another sequel series, although it remains unclear how Hall will reprise the role of Dexter after his character has died – repeatedly.
“I’m on the inside to a certain extent and I have an idea of what’s coming, but I’m really excited,” Hall said Entertainment Weekly in August 2024 for the future of the franchise. “I’ve spent so much time with this character and it’s going to be great to come back and fill in all the imaginary blanks.”
Hall said he was excited about it rather a guide to his character thanks to Dexter: Resurrectionadding: “The scripts they’ve done are fantastic. I can’t wait as a fan to watch it and as an actor to spend time watching actual footage of things that I’ve kind of tried to imagine for myself when I imagine what the early days of Dexter were like.”
He concluded, “Now I’ll have this color version of his memories to refer to. I think it will help inform my experience for what comes next in the other series, which I can only talk about briefly at this stage. It’s quite intoxicating. It’s so satisfying.”
