Can the cover-up be greater than the crime?
So it is little surprise that few people even realized that rep. Al Green, D-Texas, appeared in the pit of the living room and was formally admonished by Huisspeker Mike JohnsonR-La., With a solution of censorship Thursday morning.
The house voted 224-198 with two members who were present to censor Green for his antics during President Donald Trump’s Speech to congress Tuesday evening.
According to the resolution, Green had to present himself in the source when Johnson read the resolution for the house for his violations and officially casted him, with a rap from the hammer.

But you would not be alone if you missed it.
That is because a large number of Democrats joined the stage at Green. Johnson hit the hammer and begged Green’s colleagues to stop. They sang “we will overcome”, who drowns Johnson.
But the deed was ready. Green was censored – even if few saw it really. That’s because there is a trend in the congress for colleagues to join the censored person in the well of the house and to make a ruckus, who almost diluted the discipline.
This is why Rep. Tim Burchett, r-tenn., Argued that the house should now try to expel Green. Rep. Andy Ogles, r-tenn., Prepares a resolution to get rid of the dozens of Democrats who have joined Green in the well from their committees. There is also a step to alleviate Green from his committee assignments.
It used to be not. There is a matter of discussion about ‘who first fired’. But the discipline in the house on censorship has fallen considerably in recent years. And that also applies joint session of the congress.
Green became the 29th member of the house that was censored in the history of the institution. But he is the fourth Democrat that has been censored by the house since 2023. The fifth general member that must be censored if you have the censorship of Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Arar., In 2021.
You have to go back to 2010 with former rep. Charlie Rangel, DN.Y., to find a member that has been censored. Before that? Try 1983.
Reporter’s Notioneboook: Sorting it out
The Rangel censorship on office abuse is considerable. Rangel was a towering figure in the congress. A Korean war hero who remains to die on the battlefield. Rangel got up of modest roots in Harlem to become chairman of the Committee of the House Ways and Means. The house voted for Censure Rangel at the end of 2010 after a long investigation. After the vote, former house speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., The New York Democrat asked to ‘present itself in the well’. With the entire house present, Rangel, surprised at the front of the room, his head low, hands folded in the front as if he were about to pray.
Nobody said a word. Members of both parties were in Rapt Silence while Pelosi read the text of the censorship resolution in a non -characteristic soft tone. Pelosi himself seemed affected and had to censor her boyfriend and such a praised colleague. Pelosi tapped the hammer so lightly at the end of the disapproval that it seemed almost coincidentally.
The deed was ready.

That is not how Censures rolls in the house anymore.
Compare the censorship of Rangel with the 2023 Censures of former Rep. And now Senator Adam Schiff, D-Calif., And former Rep. Jamaal Bowman, DN.Y., and you will find raw things. Scream. Scream. Everything to hide what the speaker reads from the stage.
In the case of the censorship of 2023 of Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., The resolution explained her just censored, but required her not to appear in the pit of the room for the entire house and the speaker.
The number of coverings is increasing dramatically. Republicans will claim that Democrats ‘started’. The house censored Gosar in 2021 to place an anime video that showed him that he used a sword to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., and former President Biden to harm. The measure also dissected Gosar from his committee assignments. In 2021, Democrats and 11 Republicans voted for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., To remove from her committees. They claimed that she traded conspiracy theories and racism that encouraged violence.
But in the case of Al Green, his behavior on the floor reflects a trend from the Hector of the President in the Living Room. Taylor Greene and Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., Certainly hunted and taunted Former President Biden During his speeches to the congress. The former president even briefly engaged them on one occasion. This unfolded under three speakers from the house: Pelosi, Johnson and former house speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. Yet there was never any effort from the speaker to have someone removed on those occasions.
That changed when Johnson Green ordered on Tuesday.

But when did all start?
It goes back to September 2009.
Rep. Joe Wilson, RS.C., shouted “You Lie” at President Barack Obama while giving a speech with a joint session of the congress on health care reform. Wilson specifically accused the president of lying when he stated that it was “incorrect” that people in the country would be illegally eligible for health benefits.

Bipartisan legislators immediately condemned the eruption. Wilson apologized to the then staff chef Rahm Emanuel. In a statement, Wilson said that he “let my emotions get the best of me.” He characterized the episode as a ‘town hall moment’. By the weekend Wilson was fundraising of the incident.
Pelosi did not want to continue with a punishment. But her members pushed against the speaker – and overcome.
Rep. Jim Clyburn, DS.C., who at the time served as the majority of the house, thought that Wilson’s off-phase apology was not enough. Clyburn, and colleague members of the Black Caucus of the congress, believed that the house had to do something to assert the rules of decorum. They believed that the verbal attack was tinted with racing – focused on the first black president.

Appeared on CNN, CBC member and Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., Argued that if the house didn’t stand up against Wilson, “people with white hoods (would) run through the countryside again.”
Democrats wanted Wilson to apologize to the entire house. After he refused, Democrats begged ahead with a vote on a “solution of disapproval” of Wilson’s actions.
A reprimand, disapproval and expulsion are the three formal ways of discipline in the house. A “resolution of disapproval” is a bit like receiving a congress parking ticket.

Then minority leader and future speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, called the effort a ‘political stunt’. Boehner claimed that there was “behavior in this room that is more serious than this.”
Former Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., Chairman of the CBC at the time.
“Today’s resolution is an opportunity for us to come together and reject infertility,” said Lee. “Let’s turn the page.”
They did anything but that.

The house is now involved in low guerrilla warfare with periodic flare-ups. There is routine slips with the president – regardless of who the office occupies – when he starts speaking with a joint session of the congress. The parties are fighting for Tit-for-Tat resolutions of disapproval and committees.
They are still running the page for a long time, as Barbara Lee suggested 16 years ago.

And that is why Mike Johnson has to decide next week whether he wants to feed a skirmish in this partisan Fracas. He must decide whether he wants to measure more discipline to green and those who were in the well.
Or turn the page.
