Bucs’ Baker Mayfield sounds excited about flag planting on college football drama: ‘Let the boys play’

Baker Mayfield developed a reputation for being a hard-nosed player with a bit of trash talk when he took the pill at the University of Oklahoma en route to a Heisman Trophy.

Mayfield may have been the one to start the flag-planting tradition when he took the Sooners’ flag and planted it in the ground in the middle of the Ohio State field after a win in 2017.

After a series of fights over players trying to plant flags on their opponents’ courts, Mayfield defended the players for the attempts.

“I will say this: OU-Texas does it every time they play,” Mayfield said after the game Tampa Bay Buccaneers On Sunday, they narrowly defeated the Carolina Panthers 26-23 in overtime. ‘It’s nothing special. Take your ‘L’ and move on. I’ll leave it at that.’

Mayfield also seemed to disagree that flag planting should be banned.

“College football is supposed to have rivalries. It’s like the Big 12 banning the ‘Horns down’ signal,” he said. “Let the boys play.”
