A South African citizen who entered the US illegally became a “positive match” on the terrorist watch list, leading to his “quick” arrest in New York City.
According to US Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens, the unidentified South African national, was initially held in Texas for criminal trespass but was released.
Owens said further investigation revealed a “positive match on the terrorist watch list.”

The positive identification of the suspect involved in terrorism led to a rapid multi-agency effort to arrest the individual Brooklyn, New York. It is unclear how and when the suspect arrived in New York City.
“Thanks to multi-agency coordination, this potential threat was located, captured and remains in custody today pending removal” he said.
