Meanwhile, Sajid Khan was adjudged Man of the Match for his impressive nine wickets in both innings in the first Test against the West Indies. He also admitted that it was a spin-friendly pitch, providing plenty of spin and bounce, and the spinners exploited it effectively at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Sajid Khan reflects on his match-winning performance in the 1st Test
Sajid said at the post-match presentation: “The wicket had a lot of turn and bounce. The spin bowling coach spoke to me, and in the second innings I bowled a bit slower and didn’t leak too many runs as I conceded runs later in the spell in the first innings.
Nauman Ali discusses a lot with me as he is very experienced. We didn’t want to score runs in the second innings, and that was great. I wanted to hit well. But I went for the stroke from the inside out, and it didn’t come out. Obviously, the shot wasn’t on that court (smiles).”
Notably, Sajid has crossed the milestone of 50 Test wickets for Pakistan in just his 11th match. He reached the milestone at an average of 27.73, and has three four-step hauls and four five-wicket hauls so far in the longest format of the game.
In six home Tests, Sajid has claimed 34 wickets at an average of 31.03, including three five-wicket hauls, while he has claimed 21 wickets at an excellent average of 22.71 in five away Tests. Moreover, Sajid has an impressive record in first-class cricket, with 294 wickets to his name.
