The Arkansas State Senate has approved a bill to provide suitable for the safety instruction of firearms last week and the Arkansas Department of Education will collaborate with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to develop a plan.
ACT 229, also known as House Bill 1117, requires public school districts and public charter schools open registrations to transfer annual instruction firearm safety.
The sponsors of the bill say that the idea comes from conversations between neighbors.

“All our children play together and fall into all the house that happens to be the game of the day. And in that process they can enter the house of a neighbor and discover that uncovered firearm, and how would they respond,” said Rep. Scott Richardson.
The bill says that it will enable the state of Game and Fish Commission of Arkansas to collaborate with the division of Elementary and secondary education To create suitable firearms safety courses for age and to approve.
Methods discussed in the bill vary from videos to online sources and even mentions the possibility of an off-campus, the committee approved for firearms safety in combination with a live-Fire exercise or sporting event.
Although these are only options that are currently being discussed, the bill explains that as an option of live-Fire training is approved, parents must give permission.
“If an off-campus, commission-approved firearm safety course is provided in conjunction with a live-fire exercise or sporting event, the provider of the off-campus, commission-approved firearm safety course and the public school district or open-enrollment public charter school in which the participating student is enrolled shall ObTain prior written approach from the participating student’s parent, Legal Guardian, OR Person Standing in Loco Parentis to the Participating Student, “Accordination to the Bill.

The committee will also be responsible for determining the earliest figure that is suitable for students to get the training.
The instruction starts with the school year 2025-2026.
