Andy Cole has supported Wayne Rooney in claiming Manchester United is no longer an attractive choice for elite players.
Rooney recently said he would not sign for United today, despite being the scorer of the club of all time, after a wonderful 13 -year spell with the Old Trafford Club.
And Cole, who won five Premier League crowns and the Champions League with United under Sir Alex Ferguson, admitted that he agreed with Rooney’s view.
Said the former international England Betmgm: “I saw what Wayne (Rooney) said and I can get from where it comes.
“If you have five top players who might be on the go in the summer and have all the big clubs looking at them, what is there that attracts these players to Manchester United?
“At the moment, all the other big clubs have a Champions League football and are struggling to win their respective championships. Manchester United will probably end in the lower position of the championship at ages and could not easily have a Champions League football.”
You get a hit – Cole
He added: “As a professional footballer you get a hit and when you get to a particular age, you want to play Europe’s biggest competition and want to compete for titles in the biggest championships around the world.
“If someone doesn’t give you this, like Manchester United at the moment, you look elsewhere – that’s just a fact.
“Wayne has not dug. He just says how it is.”
United is in the middle of another disappointing season and sat 14th in the Premier League, collapsing from the FA Cup in Fulham over the weekend.
Ruben Amorim has had little effect since he replaced Erik Ten Hag on Dugout, but he will hope better when he takes his side in San Sebastián tonight to face real sociedad in the first Europa League, 16 equilibrium round.
