Alison Brie reacts to the death of frequent collaborator Jeff Baena

Alison Brie mourning the death of a frequent collaborator and friend, Jeff Brothers.

Brie, 42, shared a series of photos of the pair together via her Instagram Stories on Sunday, January 5. In the first image, Brie smiled as she watched Baena as he spoke at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. for Horse girl. (Brie and Baeana co-wrote and co-produced the Netflix movie, which she stars in and he directed.)

While sharing the photo via social media on Sunday, Brie added a broken heart emoji to the image. In another photo, Brie and Baena hugged each other, while in an additional photo, she leaned against him as they sat on the couch.

“Rest in peace my friend,” she wrote above another image of the two smiling.

One day before Bree’s upload, Us Weekly confirmed that Baena died by suicide at 47 years old. Baena is survived by his wife, Aubrey Plazawhich is yet to be publicly spoke of his death.

Before his death, Baena wrote and directed a series of indie TV shows and films – several of which starred Bree. While reflecting on their friendship in 2022, Bree revealed that she and her husband, Dave Francoare neighbors of Baena and Plaza, 40.

“Dave and I lived pretty close to Jeff and Aubrey. Jeff and I started going together pretty regularly, just as friends, and during those long hikes we would talk about different ideas,” Brie recalls of Collider. “I eventually felt comfortable enough with him to talk to him about my idea Horse girlwhich we wrote and co-produced together. It was such a good experience.”

After Horsegirl, Bree said Baena approached her about another film, 2022 Spin Me Round. The two co-wrote the romantic comedy that Bree co-starred with Plaza.

“And then he came to me and said, ‘Well, I have an idea that I’ve been thinking about for a long time.’ That led to this,” she explained to the publication. “It’s all been a pretty organic evolution.

While promoting the film in August 2022, Baena gushed over her relationship with Brie. “It’s a crazy benefit to have the person you’re collaborating with on all fronts be on the other side of the camera as well,” Baena said AV Club. “Because in addition to understanding, obviously, where the script is coming from and what the intent is, they can also set the tone in terms of the acting.”
