Airplane passenger sparks debate after sitting next to huge dog on plane: ‘Couldn’t move’

An airplane traveler shared a video of a large dog in a row on social media, sparking a discussion on Reddit.

Titled “Bull mastiff in Comfort+,” the user captioned the post: “This is getting ridiculous.”

On the sub-Reddit forum titled ‘r/delta’, users debated whether a dog that size should be allowed to board a flight.

The video shows how the dog’s backside appears to be digging into the skin space of the traveler as it extends between the two seats in the row.

“It should be illegal. No one feels comfortable,” said one user.

Another said: “Bull Mastiff in comfort + making everyone uncomfortable +. (That.) poor dog doesn’t even look comfortable.).”

“Is this real?! I don’t believe this?! That doesn’t exist,” another asked.

Many users expressed their affection for pets, but felt this went too far.

“I love dogs and have one myself, but this looks miserable for the pup… If you have a dog this size, pay for an extra seat so everyone can feel more comfortable. I wouldn’t agree with this trying with my 45 pound dog,” said one user.

Another person added: ‘I love mine big dogs as good as the next person, but this has been on the rise in recent years and something definitely needs to change.”

“I’m so confused… my puppy had to fit in a certain size bag AND under the seat in front of me. How the heck was it this allowed,” one Reddit user wondered after someone posted a video showing a large dog (not pictured) traveling on a flight. (iStock)

“As much as he looks like a sweet guy, I would 100 percent take this to Delta and get some kind of compensation (while I still can),” one user suggested.

One Redditor added: “This is insane. Look, dogs are nice. They do NOT belong anywhere. Especially not in cramped, limited seating on a metal tube thousands of feet high.”

Some users noted that the pet could be a “service dog.”

“If you have that notation, you can take your service dog on the plane. If you are a large service dog, you will have to buy a second seat,” one user posted.

“This would only happen if the owner claimed the dog was a service animal,” one person wrote.

“I’m so confused… my puppy had to fit in a certain size bag AND under the seat in front of me. How the heck was it this allowed,” one user wondered.

When a commenter asked if the passenger did anything to address the situation, the passenger responded, “What can you do? The owner obviously apologized and was well behaved. But come on. A 100 pound dog?! It was a full flight, so that could”t move”

The Delta website states the airline lists guidelines for traveling with pets.

“Small dogs, cats and pet birds can travel in the cabin for a one-way fee collected at check-in,” the site says.

It adds: “The pet must be able to fit into a soft-sided, ventilated pet kennel that fits directly in front of you under the seat.”

Kennel size recommends maximum dimensions of 18″ x 11″ x 11″ for most aircraft types, but varies depending on aircraft size.
