ABC’s David Muir returns to air with a looser coat after being mocked for ‘vanity’ with a tailored look

ABC host David Muir made a noticeable change on Thursday night after being shredded for appearing to use clothespins to give his clothes a more form-fitting appearance while reporting from the scene of the devastating LA wildfires the day before.

During “ABC World News Tonight” Wednesday, Muir wore a yellow fireproof jacket with the ABC News logo on it. At one point during his reporting, Muir turned to his left and revealed what appeared to be clothespins that keep the jacket tight around his body. Social media users mocked the newsreader for appearing to put too much effort into his appearance while reporting on a disaster.

“Nice jacket Bro. I’m glad you’re looking nice and slim with those clothesline clips while our city burns to the ground,” rock star Ozzy Osbourne’s son Jack Osbourne wrote on X Wednesday, destroying the anchor because he would worry about his appearance during the tragedy.

The younger Osbourne post quickly racked up more than 3 million views, and Muir was criticized by other prominent X users, who accused him of being vain and embarrassing himself.

David Muir reports on the disaster

ABC anchor David Muir reported on the ongoing fire in Southern California, wearing his jacket noticeably looser instead of in tight clips.

But Thursday night, while reporting from the scene, he wore his flame-retardant jacket open and it was noticeably looser. The broadcast also included footage of him without a jacket, instead wearing casual clothes like he does examined the wreck.
