There is a tingling of fear in a company when the words “restructuring”, “merger”, “acquisition” or “hostile acquisition” spread throughout the office. Employees work on their CVs, whisper about projected redundancies and assess their options.
We now see the same phenomenon unfolding in the capital of our nation. Since the acquisition last month, President Donald Trump has promised to flash through federal departments to reverse waste, reduce ideological programs and Return tax common sense To American governance. Although Republican presidents have long promised to “reduce the size of the government”, they have usually not done this – the bureaucracy always wins. This time can be different.
The second Trump government has been surprisingly aggressive in its efforts to reform federal authorities, including a controlled demolition of USAID and a bold buy -out plan for government employees. And Elon Musk, Leader of the Ministry of Efficiency of the President, has a long track record of successful and sometimes extreme, cost -saving. For example, when Musk Twitter took over, he fired 80% of employees and at the same time he managed to improve the product and increase profitability.

The next phase of the conflict between Trump and the bureaucracy seems to be the Department of Education, Who has correctly identified the president as a hotbed of left -wing ideologies. Almost every Republican presidential candidate has promised to reduce or abolish the department since 1980, but the budget has only grown.

If the Trump administration really starts to dismantle the Ministry of Education, it must understand the best way to do this. (Jose Luis Magana)
When Trump made the same promise on the campaign track last year, I was skeptical. But Musk changes the calculation: the tech entrepreneur has already routed USAID and, as I can confirm through my own report, has been sent to his dogeersieurs to investigate the Doe. Although the department, as a public entity, does not have the same kind of balance as a company, it must nevertheless be broken apart and finally closed.
What is the best way to continue? The administration must first understand that the Ministry of Education manages three primary activities: student loans and subsidies from students; K-12 Financing; And ideological production, which includes a range of programs, subsidies, civil rights initiatives and NGOs from third parties that create left -wing content to penetrate local schools. It is not possible or desirable to close all three functions at the same time. Instead, Secretary of Education Nominee Linda McMahon, in collaboration with Musk and Doge, should each handle individually.
Firstly, the department must deduce all student loans and subsidies from students to an independent financial entity. The Federal Government Backstops currently $ 1.6 trillion in study loans and gives another $ 110 billion to student assistance every year. This is a huge portfolio that requires a dedicated set of managers, risk analysts and cost cutters. These professionals must reform the portfolio of the student-Lean, which means that as much as possible shifts to the private market and limit the total number of loans, which is partly responsible for administrative bloat and the student-protection crisis.
Secondly, the administration, in collaboration with the congress, must block the financing programs of the Ministry of Education for the States. Every year the department sends around $ 100 billion to state governments and local school districts throughout the country, often with serious limitations and draconian ideological conditions.
For example, the Biden government tried to use this federal Largesse to push breed and gender politics into local school districts. Instead of legitimizing the mandatory power of the department, the administration simply must adjust all the expenditure of the K-12 Department, shared by the state population and pay the result to each state with a few or no signs. States can continue to use this financing for meals, schools with low incomes and special education, but they will have the flexibility to do this in a way that best meets their local needs.
Thirdly, Trump must close the centers of the ideological production of the Ministry of Education and the employment of the bureaucrats that run them. The department maintains a vast network of ideological centers through its research programs, as well as a wide range of NGOs, which survive in department financing and promoting left -wing identity activism.

These groups have become a hotbed of progressive identity policy and promote theories about “systemic racism” and the idea that men can become in women. Such activities do not serve the public interest and do not earn a public subsidy, especially among a conservative president who promised to put an end to the critical racing theory and gender ideology in the federal government.
Similarly, the Office for Civil Rights of the Ministry of Education, while apparently serves a noble goal, is used as a batch of batching to promote left -wing ideologies. The most important civil rights functions of the office can easily be folded in the Ministry of Justice, where the administration can offer the necessary supervision without the left -wing ideologists of the Department of Education and Civil Rights Apparatchiks.
Although the department, as a public entity, does not have the same kind of balance as a company, it must nevertheless be broken apart and finally closed.
There is an open question about authority. Some members of Trump’s Inner Circle believe that the president can only dismantle the Ministry of Education through executive action, as they have done with USAID. However, it is unlikely that the Ministry of Education can be terminated without specific legislation, or, at least, an agreement from the congress to delegate the reorganization authority to the president, as regularly did between 1932 and 1984.

By implementing any daring reform, public support is a crucial consideration. In order to maintain the approval of the Americans, the Trump government must explain that students will still be able to receive loans, K-12 schools will still receive financing for special education programs, and civil rights will still be Protected by the Ministry of Justice. This ensures that the argument can be aimed at eliminating deep unpopular and division of left -wing ideologies, just as Musk has already done with USAID.
Time is now. The president is in his first 100 days and major change can best be determined if an administration has a high public approval. Musk also understands that hesitation indicates weakness. Abolish the Ministry of Education – and don’t look back.
