The 24-year-old suffered a groin injury during the first Test against the Islanders, a setback that leaves the Proteas without one of their key pacemen for the next few games.
Groin injury ends Gerald Coetzee’s streak
Coetzee felt discomfort while bowling on the fourth day of the opening Test. After scans, Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed a right groin muscle strain. An expected recovery period of four to six weeks means Coetzee’s return to cricket will be delayed, with his availability for the SA20 Championship also under a cloud of uncertainty.
Coetzee, who is part of it Joburg Super Kings team for SA20may lose their opening match against MI Cape Town on January 11. His absence is a major blow to his franchise as well given his impressive form in his recent outings.
