In his 7th matchday Big Bash League 2024-25at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, the Hobart Hurricanes took it over Perth Scorcherswith fans witnessing a sensational one-handed catch from the Hobart batsman, Ben McDermott. The impressive grab came from his bowling Riley Meredithdismissing Perth’s opener, Find Allenin a dramatic turn of events.
Ben McDermott’s remarkable one-handed catch
The match got off to a fiery start from Perth Scorchers opener Allen, who opened the innings with a boundary off the very first ball. Meredith bowled a delivery at deep that swung outside off and Allen flicked it deftly to the left of midwicket, sending the ball racing to the boundary. The crowd roared as Allen got off to a strong start but the very next delivery turned the tide in Hobart’s favour.
Meredith’s next ball to Allen was a length delivery that clipped after the pitch, catching the inside edge of Allen’s bat. The ball came away from his body and in a split second, McDermott, positioned behind the stumps, dived superbly to his left to make a one-handed catch. Allen was dismissed for 4 runs off just 2 balls.

Great performance by Riley Meredith with the ball
Meredith was the standout performer for the Hobart Hurricanes in the first innings. The right-arm fast bowler’s excellent spell of 3 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs was instrumental in keeping the Scorchers’ batting in check. After Allen’s early wicket, Meredith dismissed two more Perth key players. First, he got rid of it Cooper Connollywhom McDermott caught and then dismissed Perth’s captain, Ashton Turnerin a critical discovery. Meredith’s accuracy and ability to strike at crucial times ensured that the Scorchers could not build significant partnerships. His remarkable performance didn’t stop there, Meredith also showed excellent positioning, executing a direct strike to exhaust the keeper’s shot Josh Englishfurther tightening Hobart’s grip on the game.
