The Friedkin Group “has been nothing but supportive for me,” says Dyche

Everton boss Sean Dyche said new Toffees executive chairman Marc Watts has his “full support” after a “very casual” meeting at the club’s training ground on Friday.

Watts, who was appointed after Farhad Moshiri completed the purchase of the club on Thursday, met with Dyche and women’s team manager Brian Sorensen, as well as the rest of the staff.

“Apart from winning games – which all managers have to do – they’ve made it clear they’ve got nothing but support for me,” Dyche said.

“It was about the format going forward. They fully support me, the staff and the team moving forward… nothing but support and no second thoughts about anything else.

“I haven’t said much about what I want. They asked me questions about what I learned in my time and the overall feel of the club.”

Friedkin Group: Everton takeover ‘classified’

Former Watford and Burnley manager Dyche has been part of a tumultuous period at Everton since being appointed in January 2023, starting with the club’s move away from relegation on the final day of the 2022/23 season.

Everton were deducted a total of eight points for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules last season but finished 14 points above the relegation zone.

They are currently three points adrift of third-placed Ipswich Town after winning three of their opening 15 league games and Dietz will not dwell on whether he expects to be in charge when they move to their new 52,888-capacity ground at Bramley- Moor Dock. next season.

“It’s not an immediate change, but it would be good to be a little more stable than it has been since I got here,” he said of the acquisition.

“The possible change of owners has now been settled. There is no magic wand, but it would be nice to know that (my) hard work was for a good cause. I hope he brings a positive attitude to the team.”

Dietz: “Everton’s finances are very important”

“Most things on the pitch, they support … they’re not very involved in that side of things,” Dyche added.

“It was very casual, picking each other’s brains and clarifying the club’s financial position is very important going forward.”

Chelsea visit Goodison Park on Sunday (2pm BST) when Everton will look to improve on a seven-game winning streak by winning back-to-back home games.
