A touching gesture made by Travis Kelce in honor of his brother Jason it may not be all that it seems.

While talking to a sportscaster Charissa Thompson on the Thursday, December 19 episode of her podcast, “I’m not going to lie with Kylie Kells,” Jason’s wife Kylie poke holes in a story Travis told earlier.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis, 35, says the reason he wears No. 87 on his jersey is he honors his brother Jason, who was born in 1987.

Thompson, 42, recalled the moment Travis made the revelation in an interview with NFL Films in which he participated.

“Travis then told me he’s wearing 87 because of Jason … that’s the year he was born,” Thompson said before Kylie interjected.

“Jason still calls,” Kylie, 32, said. “Jason is still unfazed by this revelation. He said, “No, they gave you an ’87,’ and he said, “Uh, how can I remember that? It’s my brother’s birthday.

Whether the story is true or not, Thompson admits, “Well, it’s a nice feeling. It’s a nice story.

Kylie agreed, replying, “It was so sweet.”

NFL Films shared an interview with the brothers in December 2023 where Travis made the claim about his jersey number.

“If there’s a legacy from Kelce, two brothers who made it to the NFL, it all started in 1987 because that big man was born in 1987,” Travis said of Jason, 37, during the interview.

Travis and Jason have developed a strong brotherly bond over the years and neither of them ever shy away from praising their sibling in public.

Jason was excited about Travis making it to his third Super Bowl in February 2024. He described the experience as “a little different” watching Travis play instead of being in the big game himself.

“I love just being a fan. Being able to root and just watch good football. I can’t wait to watch it,” Jason told NFL Network Cameron Wolfe at that time. “Whenever you watch a loved one compete, you feel a sense of great pride. It’s very different from competing (on your own).”

Jason added: “Obviously my brother and I love each other a lot. We cherish these moments because we know they will eventually disappear.”

Meanwhile, Travis lashed out at his older brother during his monologue while hosting Saturday Night Live in February 2023

“Jason and I actually played football together since we were little kids and he was always better than me – at everything,” Travis said of Jason, before joking, “In high school he was an A-lister and I got kicked off the team because I didn’t make it in French. And then when we were in college, I actually got kicked off the team because I tested positive for marijuana.”
