The Friedkin Group has officially taken majority control of Everton, marking the end of Farhad Moshiri’s tenure.
The deal, worth more than £400m, makes Everton the 10th Premier League club to be majority-owned by an American.
The deal between Moshiri and the Texas-based Friedkin Group was initially reached on September 23, but required final regulatory approval from the Premier League before the takeover could be completed.
Led by chairman Dan Friedkin, the Friedkin Group also owns Serie A side AS Roma.
As part of the new leadership structure, Friedkin is expected to serve as Everton’s chairman, with Marc Watts taking on the role of executive chairman, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the club.
In an open letter to fans, Friedkin expressed his excitement about the acquisition: “I am very proud to welcome one of England’s most historic football clubs into our global family, the Friedkin Group. Everton represents a proud heritage and we are honored to become custodians of this great institution.

“While we are new to the club, we fully understand the vital role Everton plays in local culture, history and the lives of Evertonians here and around the world.
“We are deeply committed to honoring this heritage while making a positive contribution to the community, economy and people of this remarkable city.”
Farhad Moshiri, a British-Iranian businessman, first bought a 49.9% stake in Everton in 2016 before increasing his ownership to 94.1% in 2022.
His tenure was marked by significant financial investment but also instability as Everton struggled both on and off the pitch.
Everton, a club that has not been relegated since the 1953–54 season, have endured three consecutive years of poor finishes in the Premier League, finishing 16th, 17th and 15th in the previous seasons.
Currently in 16th place, the team are facing another difficult season under manager Sean Dyche.
Friedkin Group representatives are expected to attend Everton’s upcoming match against second-placed Chelsea at Goodison Park on Sunday.
