Nicole Kidman recounts her mother’s profound last words to her before her death.

The Baby girl the star was mourning the death of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidmanin September, and recalled his last words during an interview for CBS Sunday Morning on Sunday, December 15.

“The last words my mom said, which I didn’t know would be the last words… I was going to get on the plane and go back to see her. And she said, ‘Maybe wait a little while, because I think you just need to take care of yourself right now, Nicki,'” Kidman, 57, said. “So I do that more. And I say it to other people in the world and especially to women. I think we tend not to take care of ourselves.

The Oscar winner revealed that when her grandmother died, her last words were: “Be happy.”

“And my mom said, ‘Take care of yourself,'” Kidman recalled.

Kidman said her mother’s last words were something she herself will respect as a mother of four. (Kidman shares daughter Isabella, 31, and son Connor, 29, with her ex-husband Tom Cruise and teenage daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 13, with husband Keith Urban.)

“I’m obviously an older mom, so I want to be around for a long time with my girls,” Kidman said. “They are amazing girls and I am lucky to have them. So taking care of myself means I can take care of them.

Kidman learned of her mother’s death in early September shortly after arriving at the Venice International Film Festival.

“I arrived in Venice today to find out shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, had just passed away,” Kidman said in a statement read on her behalf by Baby girl director Halina Rein during the awards ceremony on September 7, where Kidman won the award for best actress. “I’m in shock and I have to go to my family but this award is for her, she shaped me, she guided me and made me.”

The statement continued: “I am extremely grateful to be able to say her name to all of you through Halina, the collision between life and art is heartbreaking and my heart is broken.”

Days later, Kidman and her sister, Antonia, shared a joint message via Instagram, thanking friends and fans for their support amid their loss.

“My sister and I, along with our family, want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week,” the sisters wrote. “Every message we received from those who loved and admired our Mother meant more to us than we will ever be able to express. Thank you from our entire family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other ❤️.”

In October, Kidman admitted that she misses her mother very much.

“It was hard,” Nicole, 57. said The Hollywood Reporter on Lioness season 2 premiere in Los Angeles. “The road is difficult. I’m behaving.”

The actress said it was bittersweet to celebrate her career success without her mother sharing it.

“I wish my mom was here,” Nicole said on the way out. “That would be the only thing I would say. Everything is great with work, but I wish my mom was here.
