Khalil Dorsey of the Detroit Lions suffered a serious injury and was taken to the hospital


Detroit Lions cornerback Khalil Dorsey was forced off the pitch on Sunday 15 December after suffering a horrific ankle injury.

Dorsey, 26, collided with a teammate Ezekiel Turner during the second quarter of the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field in Detroit.

After the injury, Dorsey’s teammates knelt and surrounded him on the field. Lions head coach Dan Campbell also headed to Dorsey to check on his injured player.

After being placed in an air cast, Dorsey was carted off the field in apparent distress.

According to the CBS sideline reporter Tracy WolfsonDorsey was transported to a local hospital.

Dorsey was inserted into the game following an injury to the Lions’ starting cornerback Carlton Davis III.

The Lions immediately pulled Davis from the game with an ankle injury.

The graphic nature of Dorsey’s injury, which played out on the CBS broadcast, drew immediate backlash from viewers on social media.

“The Lions have another injury,” wrote one person via X. “I feel so bad for these players personally and as a team I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a team so decimated by injuries. We pray for a safe and healthy recovery for Khalil Dorsey.”

Another wrote: “Man I’m praying for Lions #30 Khalil Dorsey…this is just awful. I hate to see this happen.

Some fans also criticized the Bills wide receiver Mack Hollinswho appeared to point and taunt Dorsey while he was on the ground.

“The Bills were my second favorite team, but after watching Mack Hollins make fun of a guy who broke his leg in half, I can’t wait to see them go in the first round of the playoffs,” one person wrote via X. “Karma always finds way to catch up with such people.’

Another wrote: “If Mack Hollins was really laughing at Khalil Dorsey’s injury and making fun of him, he deserves whatever consequences he gets for it. That should never be tolerated, especially given what this team went through in 2023.”

The social media user was referring to the Bills safety Damar Hamlinwho suffered a cardiac arrest during a match in January 2023. Hamlin, 26, will eventually return to action at the start of the 2024-25 season.

In 2023 Dorsey revealed that he was diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis, a medical condition that affects the kidneys.

“It definitely messes with your mind mentally, just because you want to go 100 percent all the time,” Dorsey told reporters at the time. “But, in the back of my mind, if I’m 100 percent all the time, all those plays, is it going to affect me? But I will.”
