Enzo Maresca has made an incredible start to life at Chelsea, but there is one decision that fans and pundits continue to question.
The Italian manager moved to Stamford Bridge this summer to replace Mauricio Pochettino and the former Leicester boss currently has the Blues second in the Premier League and top of the Europa Conference League.
Maresca has found a way to get his young Chelsea squad to perform, but a decision the 44-year-old made before kicking a ball this season is still being questioned by many in the footballing world.
The Blues boss decided it makes Robert Sanchez his number one goalkeeper for the seasondespite the London club signing talented 22-year-old Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal during the summer.
Sanchez is a liability between the sticks for Chelsea as the Spanish shot-stopper is an average goalkeeper who is not good with the ball at his feet and prone to mistakes that lead to goals.
However, Maresca believes in the 27-year-old who has started him in all but one Premier League game during the first half of the season – which Jamie Carragher believes he will cost Chelsea this season.
That won’t change anytime soon, the 44-year-old told the press on Friday.

Speaking to the press on Friday ahead of Chelsea’s game with Brentford, Maresca said Sanchez would not be stepping down from his role any time soon.
“The idea is not to change, we trust Robert,” said the Italian coach Fabrizio Romano. “But even in this case, we have two goalkeepers who are both good. As long as they maintain the same level, we’re happy with it.”
This is a decision Maresca will live and die by as the season progresses, as it’s a choice that could have a big impact on Chelsea’s season down the stretch.
