
Taylor Swift not present at 2024 Billboard Music Awards personally, but she still took the time to share a special message with the audience.
The 34-year-old pop star recorded a preview video for the awards show on Thursday, December 12, where she made history after picking up 10 wins. The new wins brought her total number of Billboard awards to 49, making her the top BMA winner of all time.
“I just want to say hello and thank you at the Billboard Awards and thank you to the fans because Billboard counts your stuff, they count what you listen to, the albums you’re passionate about,” she said in her acceptance speech. “So I think of it as the fans’ rewards, because you’re the ones who care about our albums and come to see us in concert.”
She continued: “And everything that happened with the Eras Tour and the Tortured Poets division, I just have to thank you. It means everything to me that you have embraced the things I have done and the fact that you care so much.
Swift, who turns 35 on Friday, December 13, said she sees the award as the perfect present.
“This is like the best early birthday present you could have given me. So thank you very much. love it Exactly what I wanted.”
Swift was for 17 Billboard Music Awards this year, making her the most nominated woman and the second most nominated artist behind her Zach Bryanwhich received 21 nods.
Swift’s nominations included Best Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Billboard 200 Artists, Top Hot 100 Artists, Top Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Hot 100 Producers, Top Streaming Songs Artists, Top Radio Songs Artists, Top Song Artists, Top Billboard Global 200 Artist, Top Billboard Global (excl. US) Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album for 1989 (Taylor Version) and Tortured Poets Department.Top Radio Song, Top Billboard Global 200 Songs and Top Billboard Global (non-US) Song for “Cruel Summer” and Best Collaboration for “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone.
Before the awards show, Swift was tied with Drake for the most Billboard Music awards were won by each artist with 39. The 38-year-old rapper was nominated in eight categories this year and faced off against Swift in three: Top Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album.
