When a singer-songwriter Ash entered the studio with Suki Waterhouse after a months-long hiatus from music and the spotlight, she didn’t expect to begin the process of her third studio album – but that’s exactly what happened.

“Suki Waterhouse came to Nashville to play Bonnaroo in 2023. and he asked me to write, and I said I really don’t want to do it,” Ash, 31, said Us Weekly while promoting her upcoming The Trilogy Tour. “But I told her, ‘I love you, and I think if you set the bar really low, we’re going to have a good time.’

Noting that she is struggling with uncertainty and a lack of confidence after canceling her 2023 world tour. for mental health reasons, Ash said us that the session with Waterhouse, 32, helped rekindle her love for her craft.

“I got there and the spark reignited. I was like, ‘Oh man, not only does this bring me so much joy, but I’m good at it,'” she said. “I felt like I was really meant to be making music for the longest time.”

Abaca Press/INSTARimages Fletcher plays sold-out shows around the world to thousands of fans, but when it comes to after-show parties, she likes to keep things simple. “(My ideal after-party is) honestly, something low-key and low-key, like a dive bar with pool tables or pizza in my dressing room with a speaker playing from the early 2000s (…)

Fast forward a year and Wilson — the last part of the musical trilogy, which spells out the full name of the singer, preceded by Ashlyn (her debut released in 2021) and Ray (2022) — is ready for the world to hear, independently released by Ashe. Her collaboration with Waterhouse, the product of a magical songwriting session they shared last summer, ‘Pushing Daisies’, is also there.

Waterhouse is the latest in a string of successful collaborations for the Nashville-based singer-songwriter, including “Moral of the Story” with Niall Horan and “Till Forever Falls Apart” with Testimony. Ash says the magic of these partnerships is “love and respect” – and it helps to build on the foundation of friendship, as was the case with both Waterhouse and Phineas.

As Ash prepares to hit the road again – headlining for the first time since 2022. she said us she feels “very hopeful and excited.”

“I’ve done so much therapy and work and put so much energy and time into becoming a healthy person to be able to do this again. So I’m really, really excited,” she said. “I’m just so grateful that there’s this audience that’s still stuck around and some new fans that are like, ‘Oh, let’s see what it’s all about.'”

Before going on stage for The Trilogy Tourwhich launched in Atlanta in May 2025, took Ash us behind the scenes, sharing exclusive details about life on tour:

Ritual before the show

At one point I did this thing where I stood on my head, all the blood drained to the top of my head in about a minute. And then somewhere along the way I stopped doing it, but I think I should bring it back on the next tour. It might be a little woo woo, but I kind of lost my ritual and I’m excited to start the tour and find them again.

I used to have a shot of tequila right before we went on stage, and now I’m like, ‘Let’s not do that again. Let’s go into this next tour as healthy as possible.”

Perfect Dressing Room Vibes

Nice Motown music. Not very noisy, but a pleasant atmosphere. I don’t like to be alone before I go on stage. I like to have my band with me and we all shake hands before the show before going on stage. We each have our own secret handshake with each other.

(I don’t eat) long before a performance because you run on stage for an hour and a half. I had pickles in the green room as a snack before the show. Something in the vinegar is supposed to be good for your vocal cords—I don’t know why. I could be completely wrong, but someone told me that at some point.

The craziest tour

There was one time fans ran up to the bus after the show and shook the bus. That was pretty crazy – it wasn’t in the middle of the concert, but it was pretty crazy. We just let them finish—kind of like a little kid running out of energy—and then they calmed down and the bus driver said, ‘We’ve got to go.’

The only other thing I can think of is that I forgot my mic a few times before I went on stage and the intro was about to end. There’s a video somewhere of me running backstage and my tour manager running backstage and us trying to find the microphone and we can’t find it. We eventually found it, the show had started, and I was like, “Hello, Detroit,” or whatever city we were in, but I was totally in the green room—the song had started and I had to run backstage.

But I’m excited for more fun tour stories to come!

Favorite song to perform live

“Time Out” is pretty fun. I’ve only done it once, at the Brooklyn Bowl for one night, at the album release show. It was so much fun. It was song one and I ran on stage and undid my hair. I remember thinking, ‘You’re going 120 (percent) right now, and it’s a marathon. You still have an hour and a half. So I remember in the middle of that song I dialed it back. So I’m excited to get comfortable with this song.

But there’s something so special about Till Forever Falls Apart. It’s a fan favorite. The whole room just screams. My audio engineer on the last tour said the decibels we hit as a crowd in the room were as loud as a jet plane taking off. I was like, “That’s pretty strong. That’s great.” A room full of voices, and it wasn’t more than 1,500 people singing a song as loud as a jet plane.

Perfect after party

If all my friends can ever be there – just all my people that I love so much – it’s the perfect after-party. (Charli XCXon) Bro is turned on in the background.

My ideal after-party is a scenario where it’s the last show of the tour, so I can go all out, screaming over loud music and drink in hand. There is such a level of elite athleticism that you have to step into if you want to be healthy on tour. So my ideal after party would be at the very end where I can just lose my voice and have a few drinks with all my friends.

Maybe there are Christmas decorations everywhere for no reason. It’s not even Christmas. I’m such a Christmas elf. (Ashe’s cover of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is out now.)
