Since 1927 time has chosen a person, group or concept that has had the greatest impact – whether positive or negative – over the past 12 months. Despite last year’s winner Taylor Swift enjoying an outstanding year since she took Epochs global tour, the singer is surprisingly absent from the 2024 shortlist. Instead, Princess Kate has been nominated for the honor along with nine global figures from the world of politics and business as a billionaire businessman Elon Muska podcaster Joe RoganMeta tycoon Mark Zuckerberg and future president Donald Trump.
The shortlist was revealed by NBC Today show this morning — Monday, Dec. 9 — with the winner to be announced Thursday.
Ironically 2024 it was a year Kate was supposed to be out of the limelight. She started the year behind closed doors, fueling speculation that she was unwell. Later in January, Kensington Palace announced that she had undergone “planned abdominal surgery” and would be out of the public eye until Easter. However, the princess addressed the world earlier than planned in March to end ongoing speculation about her health by announcing on camera that she had been diagnosed with cancer.
Since then she, husband Prince William and their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, have made several public appearances, most memorably in a touching video released in September to acknowledge the princess’ completion of chemotherapy. The family of five were photographed being loving and playful in nature on a beach in Norfolk, England.
The royal couple also appeared on video during the 2024 Olympics. over the summer, wishing the Team GB athletes well as they competed in Paris.
The princess has since returned to many of her usual public duties, recently came out on Friday, December 6, at the annual carol service at Westminster Abbey in London, wearing a festive red coat.
“I didn’t know this year was going to be the year I just experienced,” she told the singer Paloma Faith at the event. “The Unplanned. But I think a lot of people have had such challenging times this year.
Kate was widely praised for how she dealt with her shock diagnosis and raised awareness of how cancer can affect anyone.
She previously appeared on Time 100 list of the most influential people in 2013, as well as a runner-up for Person of the Year in 2011, the year she married Prince William.
